We arrived to Vienna yesterday morning around 9 a.m. Our train was a little late because of all of the snow in the Alps. I turned 21 just north of Bologna, in style! The view coming into Vienna was absolutely stunning, as you can see in one of the pictures below. I spent my birthday exploring the city and getting settled into our hotel. We rode the tram system downtown to explore the center of the city and to see the cathedral of Saint Stephen. It is a very picturesque cathedral typical of Austrian architecture. The downtown area was very modern and lively.

Today we visited Scholss Schonbrunn. It was the summer palace of the Hapsburg family during imperial Austria. We took a tour through the palace and the gardens, what a beautiful place to live! It was interesting to compare the living styles and architecture between the Roman Empire and imperial Austria. Tonight we went to Ice World, a famous Vienna experience where the square in front of the City Hall is transformed into a gigantic ice surface. It was by far the most gorgeous place I have ice skated in, Leonardo and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Vienna is beautiful, yet extremely cold! It is a very modern city and very different from Rome. More to come on the city in the next few days!

Auf Wiederhoren!
